Bush was correct, it was a test on resolve not on wisdom, and America
passed the test. Now it is known to all that President Bush is one of
the most unpopular US President in short history of America. But
immediately after 9/11 attacks, he became the most popular President for
his aggressive approach to seek the revenge. This explains vividly how
human behaviour towards the same issue could change in a matter of
years. This is why democracy is powerful and politicians are so cunning.
Attack The Innocent
It was a barbaric act to attack innocent men and women in America and
it is unforgivable. Whoever responsible should be brought to justice.
But then again by going to war with Iraq, America blundered the golden
opportunity to win the heart of the world. There was no connection
between Iraq and 9/11 and the whole world knew that.

Since going after Al Qaeda was difficult and takes time, it was
decided to go after Iraq, which was a soft target, assuming that this
would please the American people who were looking for revenge. They fell

A similar situation happened in Sri Lanka in 1983, When the LTTE
ambushed and killed 13 soldiers in the North, where the response was
Government supported public backlash against innocent Tamils living in
other parts of the country.
Overnight Saviours
As a result LTTE became saviours overnight. It was a calculated
gamble taken by LTTE which paid high dividends. Before this the LTTE was
nothing but a small terrorist group trained by India.
The case against America in the eyes of Islamic extremist is a
complex one. Firstly, they feel that U.S. is supporting both Israel and
Saudi Arabia to oppress them. Secondly they feel that America is
attacking Islam.
Thirdly they feel threatened by American military supremacy. And to a
lesser extend they get intimidated by the American value system and
their lifestyles thinking it is directed against Islam (this is full of
crap and Americans lifestyle is based on their culture). If not for
America, Islamic militancy would lose its ability to recruit more people
for their organisations.

It is the people's perception towards America which is being
distorted and modified to use as a tool to brainwash the young and poor
Islamic youth. In reality America never attacked Islam, they do not even
understand Islam, but they support some regimes, hatred by militants.
They believe that American support for Israel is unconditional, which
is not the case. In the eyes of America, their relationship with Israel
has strategic importance as it links to their foreign policy and
national security. And also US support to Saudi Arabia is based on US
national interests, not solely to support the ruling regime of Saudi
Arabia, although it is being perceived differently by people. The regime
in Saudi Arabia is not popular, especially among militants and US knows
that.
Radical Motives
Since the regime is supporting Islam, radicals have found that they
cannot motivate youths to rebel thus they have selected US as a bait for
militants.
Islamic militants are using religion and US aggression as a front to
fight against injustice perceived by them, just like the case of any
other freedom struggle. Once these reasons would become outdated or no
longer appealing, they would find a new one, and that is their nature.
But there is a fundamental problem in the Middle East Africa that is
lack of transparency in distribution of national wealth. As a result the
masses have been disillusioned with the ruling regimes and they are
finding ways to fight against this oppression. It is about time that
America rethinks its foreign policy.
Before becoming global policemen, they have to revive their economy.
It has been proven again and again that a sophisticated military
establishment would not give them any edge over economy.
It was possible in colonial times but not in the era of the global
village.
This change of foreign policy would be a priority for Mr. Obama as it
will help America to change the world's perception towards them and at
the same time stop colossal amount of money and life being wasted on war
fronts.
So we could expect America to do the correct thing, after they have
done everything else. If not there would be a yellow man in the White
House very soon!
Lesson To Learn
After all they have become brothers (blacks and whites) and there is
a lesson to be learned from this, for all nations. So 'African
Americans' could now become 'American Americans', after 400 years.
They too would become part of a same nation. Poor Red Indians while
gazing at the horizon will have their last laugh. |
