Six mile sea swim on Sunday

The 68-year-old Kinross Swimming and Life Saving Club, will hold its 44th annual six mile sea swim this Sunday March 22 - with the commencement of the race from the sea line alongside the club premises.

The Club through the years has done well to fulfil its obligation by organising and conducting this annual event. It has grown in stature, to be recognised as a much looked forward to popular race, for the swimmers as well as those following the sport.

This years 6 mile sea swim will begin at 7.30 a.m. from the Kinross water stretch and those competing will proceed to Mt. Lavinia and turn around to swim back to Kinross - for the event to be brought to a close by 12.00 noon.

There will be around 68 men and eight women taking part, drawn from the different clubs viz, Navy, Army, Air Force. St. Joseph’s, Dolphin Ambalangoda and Seenigama.

Amongst the reputed swimmers taking part would be last year’s men’s winner A.M. Dissanayake from the Navy and the women’s winner Dilanjali of the Dolphin Aquatic Club. Also seen in action would be the men’s and women’s winners of this year’s Mount Lavinia two mile sea swim, Pasindu Thamalsha and Chalini Dharshani both from Dharmasoka, Ambalangoda.

The event is being co-sponsored by Bank of Ceylon and Mobitel, with Victor Peiris as Chairman of the Organising Committee and E.G.A. Wilson a member of the Interim Committee of SLASU as chief guest.
