Police arrested 99 suspects on Sunday night for questioning in connection with suicide bomb blast that occurred in Godapitiya, Akurassa during the national Meelad-un-Nabi ceremony on March 10.

Police spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekera said police launched an extensive search operation in the Akurassa, Deniyaya, Pitabeddara and Morawaka areas on Sunday night and arrested 99 suspects in connection with the Akurassa suicide blast.

"Most of the suspects were living in the estate areas who had come from the North and East.

They also failed to provide a valid reason for their presence in the area," he added. The suspects are being questioned by police in their respective police area station.
