Father of two gets eight years’ RI, fine

Panadura High Court Judge Malanee Gunaratne sentenced an accused found guilty of committing a sexual offence on a 12-year school girl to eight years’ rigorous imprisonment and fined him Rs. 5,000 and in default six months imprisonment.

The accused was also ordered to pay Rs. 50,000 as compensation to the victim.

In default of the compensation, the accused was sentenced to a further two years’ imprisonment.

The accused, M. Priyantha Fernando of Nalluruwa is a father of two.

He was indicted by the Attorney General with committing a sexual offence on a 12-year-girl after kidnapping her on January 12, 1999.
