Red Cross provides mobile health clinics

Health Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva accepting the mobile clinics from country coordinator Andreas Lindner. President of the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society, Jagath Abeysinghe and National Secretary S. H. Nimal Kumar were also present.

The Sri Lanka Red Cross Society with funding support of the German Red Cross, handed over six mobile health clinics in the form of converted 40 foot containers at a cost of Rs. 5.5 million to Health Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva.

These units with AC facilities are to be used for the provision of health services for internally displaced people who are accommodated in centres in Vavuniya.

Addressing the handing over ceremony the Minister thanked both the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society and the German Red Cross for donating these facilities. "I am happy that as soon as I made this request, the Sri Lanka Red Cross with support of German Red Cross responded and fulfilled the request in a very short time," said the Minister.

He said the ministry is ready with health staff and these mobile clinics will be sent to Vavuniya and will immediately begin its services.

This will enable the Ministry to provide a quality service during this emergency to IDPs and resettle them as early as possible.

The Minister recalled the support given by the German Red Cross in health infrastructure construction and thanked the country coordinator Andreas Lindner for their continued assistance for the people in Sri Lanka.
