Red Cross provides mobile health clinics

The Sri Lanka Red Cross Society with funding support of the German
Red Cross, handed over six mobile health clinics in the form of
converted 40 foot containers at a cost of Rs. 5.5 million to Health
Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva.
These units with AC facilities are to be used for the provision of
health services for internally displaced people who are accommodated in
centres in Vavuniya.
Addressing the handing over ceremony the Minister thanked both the
Sri Lanka Red Cross Society and the German Red Cross for donating these
facilities. "I am happy that as soon as I made this request, the Sri
Lanka Red Cross with support of German Red Cross responded and fulfilled
the request in a very short time," said the Minister.
He said the ministry is ready with health staff and these mobile
clinics will be sent to Vavuniya and will immediately begin its
services.
This will enable the Ministry to provide a quality service during
this emergency to IDPs and resettle them as early as possible.
The Minister recalled the support given by the German Red Cross in
health infrastructure construction and thanked the country coordinator
Andreas Lindner for their continued assistance for the people in Sri
Lanka. |
