No shortage of rice - Director General

Director General of Agriculture Dr. C. Kudagamage said there will not be a shortage of rice in the country although nearly 65,000 hectares of paddy land had been destroyed as a result of the severe drought experienced recently.

Poor harvest in Puttalam, Kurunegala, Kandy and Matale areas following natural disasters will not in any way lead to a shortage of rice, he said. Harvesting has commenced in several parts in Sri Lanka and the Eastern Province too has recorded a bumper harvest which will boost the overall production in the country, Kudagamage said.
