The police have shot dead the key suspect alleged to have abducted
and killed a six year old girl in Trincomalee, when he tried to escape.
He will be buried at public expense after his family refused to accept
the body.
Police spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekera said the main suspect and
five others who allegedly abducted and killed Varsha Regie (6) were
arrested by police on Sunday.
“While the police team was accompanying the key suspect Oprin Mervyn
to the spot where the girl’s body was found, the suspect had attacked a
PC inside the police vehicle and police shot at him when he attempted to
escape,” he added.
Varsha, a grade- I student of St, Mary’s College Trincomalee was
abducted on Wednesday by an unidentified group while waiting to go home.
The abductors were demanding Rs. One million ransom from Varsha’s
parents to release her. However, the girl’s body was found on Friday
morning inside a fertilizer bag with her mouth gagged and hands tied. |
