Asgiriya Prelate marks 80th birth anniversary

The Most Ven. Udugama Sri Buddharakkitha Mahanayake Thera of the Asgiriya Chapter marks his 80th birth anniversary today (March 17).

Born on March 17, 1930 at Kalugamuwa, Wariyapola Most. Ven. Buddharakkhita Mahanayake Thera was ordained in 1945.

He assumed the exalted position of Mahanayake Thera of the Asgiriya Chapter in 1998. The Mahanayake Thera who is forthright in expressing his views on national and religious issues has rendered a colossal service towards the nurturing and propagation of Buddhism here and abroad.
