Recognized as a Top Global Services Provider again

Kris Canekeratne

Virtusa Corporation (NASDAQ: VRTU), a global information technology (IT) services company that provides IT consulting, technology implementation and application outsourcing services through an enhanced global delivery model, announced that it has been included in the 2009 Global Services 100, a list of the top global providers of business and technology services.

“Virtusa is delighted to receive this award for the second consecutive year,” said Virtusa Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Kris Canekeratne.

“Our teams are keenly focused on reducing IT costs and improving business outcomes for our enterprise clients. In today’s economic climate, improving IT efficiencies within core business processes has become more important than ever. Our approach, combined with our highly efficient global delivery model, enables us to not only reduce costs, but deliver much more value to our clients,” he said.

The Global Services 100 recognizes the world’s most innovative service providers, selected on the basis of a research study conducted by Global Services and neoIT, an outsourcing advisory firm.

Now in its fifth year, the Global Services 100 is designed to enable buyers of business and technology services to readily identify leading providers in key service-delivery areas.

“The Global Services 100 is like an index of globalization in the services industry. This year’s list comprises companies headquartered in 19 countries, with customer locations in over 30 countries, and service delivery locations in 31 countries. A company that figures in this list bears testimony to the fact that it can serve global customers from multiple locations,” said Editor, Global Services Ed Nair.

Telekom donates computer lab

At the computer lab

Dialog Telekom has donated a computer laboratory for Kaloogalla Maha Vidyalaya in Pussallawa, Gampola recently. Hundreds of underprivileged children from the estate community will be benefited from this donation.

Deputy Regional Director of Education (Tamil Medium) Thureiraj, said that providing facilities to disseminate IT knowledge to the children of rural areas , where access to new technological advancements are very limited , should be highly appreciated.

“The parents of most of these children are estate workers. They are not able to provide their children with new technological facilities. Therefore, we must appreciate the initiatives taken by non government corporate bodies such as Dialog Telekom to open the doors of ICT education to such needy children of remote areas, setting aside their commercial benefits.

The Minister of Education has urged the need to plan for producing at least 500 skillful graduates per year from estate sector communities from the year 2012. The fulfillment of this objective will be further strengthened by this kind of Corporate Responsibility practices. We are very grateful to Dialog Telekom, who has taken a leading role in this regard” Thureiraj said.

“We are thankful to Dialog Telekom for the encouragement provided to our students via this valuable donation.

This school was founded 80 years ago and for the first time in history we are receiving this kind of donation. At the same time, a student of this small school has excelled in year five scholarship examination for the first time and Dialog Telekom came forward to reward him with a token of appreciation.

We are grateful to Dialog for providing much needed facilities to these underprivileged children” said the Principal of Kaloogalla Maha Vidyalaya C. Rajendran.

“The Government has declared year 2009 as the year of Information Communication Technology and English. Yet IT infrastructure of Sri Lanka is mainly confined to the urban areas.

Our aim is to provide novel technology to all Sri Lankans to empower and enrich their lives, irrespective of their status. This donation is another milestone in fulfilling this vision. We hope these facilities would assist the children to gain the competencies required by new knowledge era,” said a Change volunteer from Dialog Telekom, Pradeep Mahalingam.
