Joe-Pete cricket 1984 re-match

Exactly 25 years ago in 1984 Peterites registered a closer 4 runs victory against Josephians in the Golden Jubilee encounter played at the CCC grounds. The teams of the Golden Jubilee match came together as part of the 75th encounter celebrations in this historic year.

Batting first after the Peterite skipper Seneviratne winning the toss the Petes recovered from disastrous 47 for 6 to a respectable 147 for 9 in the alloted 30 overs.

The rescue acts were performed by Man of the Match Hareen Marcelline 36 not out who shared a 39 runs partnership with Royce Buultjens 25 for the seventh wicket and a 48 runs stand with Dilrukshan Fonseka 10.

The Joes fell short of Petes total despite a fine 35 not out by best batsman Brian Rajadurai and a 30 each by Suresh Mirnado and Shehan Fernando respectively. A good spell by best bowler Sudath Kuruppu with figures of 3 for 19 further dented the Josephian run chase.

St. Peter's 147 for 9 off 30 overs (Hareen Maracelline 36 n.o., Royce Buultjens 25, Suharshie Fernandi 15 n.o., Dilrukshan Fonseka 10, Haren de S. Wijeyaratne 2 for 14)

St. Joseph's 143 for 8 off 30 overs (Brian Rajadurai 35 n.o. Suresh Mirando 35 n.o., (Shehan Fernando 30, Sudath Kuruppu 3 for 19)
