The ‘little hero’ from Mahiyangana, nine year old Dinesh Sandakelum who saved the lives of three elders who were on the verge of drowning in a canal, was rewarded for his bravery yesterday with Nalanda College, Colombo offering him a fully sponsored educational scholarship. The incident took place a couple of weeks ago, where a few elders travelling on a tractor had fallen into a canal in the Mahiyangana area, after meeting with an accident. Fortunately for them an unlikely hero came to their rescue in the form of little Sandakelum. Sandakelum was duly rewarded yesterday as Nalanda College welcomed him into their fold. He was admitted to the Year Four class. Principal, Hemantha Premathilaka, members of the staff, Sandakelum’s relations were present on the occasion. His stay at Nalanda is fully funded by the Nalanda College Old Boys’ Association.
