Drama, Japanese seminar
A free seminar targeting university and A/L students who follow drama
as a subject and teachers and students of Japanese language presented by
the Japanese Graduates' Alumni Association of Sri Lanka (JAGAAS) in
collaboration with the Japanese Embassy will be held on March 15 at the
National Youth Centre Auditorium, Maharagama from 8.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m.
Prize day
The prize-giving for the All Island Essay Competition for
schoolchildren organised by Sri Lanka Sumithrayo will be held on March
21 from 9.00 a.m. to noon.
Winning students from each province (junior and senior) will receive
18 computers at a prize-giving on March 21 at the Lions Activities
Centre, 945 A, Sri Jayawardanapura Road, Ethul Kotte.
There will be all-round 325 participants at the prize-giving, the
majority being students from outstations.
Buddhist panel discussion
The next Buddhist public Panel Discussion of the Colombo YMBA will be
on March 15 at 10.00 a.m. at its Borella building on 'Planes of
Existence'.
The panelists are Prof. Tilak Kariyawasam, former Prof. of Buddhist
Studies, University of Kelaniya and Anil Gunawardena with Rajah Kuruppu
as moderator.
Divisional survey office opening
The opening ceremony of the Elpitiya New Divisional Survey office
will be held on March 13 at 10.00 a.m. by Vocational and Technical
Training Minister Piyasena Gamage under the patronage of Survey General
Mahesh Fernando, Deputy Survey General of the Southern Province, A.
Senanayake, Senior Survey Superintendent of Galle District S. Kodikara,
Survey Superintendent of Elpitiya O.G.W. Sunil and Survey Department
staff will participate.
Language Training Division Courses
The Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies (BCIS) has called
in its new intake for Language Training Division due to commence in the
third week of March.
The new language training program will include courses in Italian,
Chinese, Spanish, Japanese, Russian and Hindi languages.
The target group for these language training programs are officials
of Government Ministries, Departments, State Corporation,
Military/Police and schoolchildren.
Calligraphy, oratorical contest
The Dawa and Religious Committee of the Moors Islamic Cultural Home
has organised the annual calligraphy and oratorical contest in
connection with the Meelad Un Nabi celebrations on March 28 at Pasha
Villa, 115, Dematagoda Road, Colombo 9.
Application forms and details have been posted to all schools and
institutions.
The closing date for the applications for this contest is March 16.
AGM
The annual general meeting of Hilwood College Past Pupils'
Association Colombo Branch will be held on March 22 from 3 pm to 5 pm at
the Masonic Hall, Marcan Markar Mawatha, Galle Face, Colombo 3.
All members are welcome.

meeting on March 29 from 10.00 a.m. at the Sri Lanka ex-Servicemen's
Association, Bristol Street, Colombo 01. All members are invited.
Matara lawyers protest
Matara Lawyers Association will hold a protest tomorrow in connection
with the LTTE's Akurassa suicide attack which killed, Attorney-at-Law
Upali Sarathchandra former Chairman, Akuressa Pradehsiya Sabha.
There will also be protests Galle and Tangalle Regional Bars tomorrow
at 10.30 a.m. at the Matara Town.
Lecture
The first commemorative lecture of the world renowned science fiction
writer late Arthur C. Clarke by President of Indian Space Centre Dr.
Kasthurirangan will be held at the BMICH, Colombo on March 19 at 5.00
p.m. It will be presided over by the Science and Technology Minister Dr.
Thissa Witharana.
Prize giving
The 20th annual prize distribution ceremony of the Sri Ratnajothi
Daham school at Medirigiriya Buddhist Centre will be held on March 15 at
9 a.m. under the patronage of North Central Province Governor
Karunaratna Divulgane.
International Consumer Day
The National Festival of the International Consumer Day will be held
from 1.00 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. at Galle Municipal Council hall today.
Closing date extended
The closing date of applications for registration of external degree
exams 2009 at Kelaniya University has been extended till March 20, the
Kelaniya University sources said.
C'wealth Day
Royal Commonwealth Society (Sri Lanka) will celebrate Commonwealth
Day 2009 at a banquet to be held on Saturday March 14, at Galle Face
Hotel, Colombo in the presence of High Commissioners of Commonwealth
countries represented in Sri Lanka.
Diploma awards
The Diploma Awarding Ceremony of the Early Childhood Development
Education and Preschool Teacher Diploma course conducted by the chain of
Lyceum International Schools in collaboration with Tharunee, the weekly
newspaper of The Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited, will be held
at the main hall of Lyceum International School, Nugegoda on March 14 at
9.00 a.m.
Sports meet
The annual inter-house sports meet of Burhani Serendib School will be
held on March 14 from 1 pm at the Sugathadasa Mini Statiudm.
Get-together
The annual get-together of the Welfare Society of Trainee
Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists (Group XXXI) will be held
on March 15 from 9 am to 6 pm at the Department Sports Ground, Castle
Street, Borella.
A special religious ceremony to invoke blessings for the
speedy recovery of Post and Telecommunications Minister
Mahinda Wijesekera who was critically injured in the
terrorist suicide bomb attack at Godapitiya, Akuressa was
held at Sivam Kovil, Maradana presided by Posts and
Telecommunications Deputy Minister M. S. Sellasamy. Ministry
