Good values vital for exemplary life

Good values would immensely help a person to make his/her life
successful, said lecturer of the Sinhala Department of the Eastern
University (Oluvil) Amarasiri Wickremaratne.
He was delivering the keynote address at the Arunalu Art Festival of
the Ginigathena MMV held at its main assembly hall recently.
Students of the Grade 12 and 13 (Art) stream under the instruction of
their teachers had organized the art festival.
Wickremaratne said as most of the people of the present society were
distanced from reading books, they didn't have an ability to admire
literature and value literary works.
That was why everyone in present day society should improve their
reading habit to assimilate literary knowledge to enrich their lives.
"In the past our society had a good habit of respecting parents,
teachers and elders but a majority of the present younger generation are
not enthusiastic in honouring elders. However, our younger generation
should inculcate the good practice of respecting elders, as done in the
past," he said. Additional Director of Education Hatton G. P.
Chandralatha, Principal of the Ginigathena MMV H. M. P. Wijeratne,
prefects Nalin Chaturanga and Shesha Mahalekam also spoke. |
