Finger scanners to record employees' attendance at Govt institutions

The Cabinet of Ministers have approved a memorandum submitted by
Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama to
formulate a national policy on finger scanners to record the arrival and
departure of employees in Government institutions.
A special circular on this will be issued to all Government
institutions.
The Cabinet also approved a memorandum submitted by Education
Minister Susil Premajayantha to set up a sub committee to promote
English and IT education in the North and East Provinces.
Cabinet spokesman, Media and Information Minister Anura Priyadarshana
Yapa said the Government has focussed special attention on IT and
English education in the North and East provinces.
This committee comprising representatives of Defence, Education,
Disaster and Relief Services Ministries will look into how IT and
education should be promoted in these provinces. Representatives of
Eastern Province Chief Minister, Northern Province Governor and
Secretariat for Coordination Peace Process will be included in this
committee.
Year 2009 was declared as the year of English and IT and a
Presidential Task Force is exploring ways of promoting English and IT
education in all districts.
