PIM develops HNB managers
Having recognized management development (MD) as one of the important
determinants of organizational success, the HNB sought the assistance of
the Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM) to formulate and conduct
a Management Development Program (MDP) for thirty senior branch
managers.
The aim of the MDP was to enable the managers to take a systematic
view of their organization, including a review of how major functions
affect each other.
The program was considered as a process from which managers learnt
and improved their skills that would contribute to their personal
advancement as well as to benefit the organization. The MDP consisted of
11 different modules and 22 sessions, spread over a period of four
months. These modules addressed a variety of areas including a renewed
vision and value system, task-competency framework, business excellence
and service excellence, and they enabled the participants to see the
organization as more than the sum of its parts. This holistic approach
was seen as a basis for effective management decision-making.
Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, HNB, R. Theagarajah said
that engaging the PIM was an important step towards effecting the
desired changes within the bank.
The program proved that the PIM has the agility to understand the
specific needs of the customer, and the flexibility to adapt to the
desired expectations. He said that the program enabled the HNB to
identify a team of key managers who are an important complement in the
bank's leadership. |
