Chief Minister condemns attack

Southern Province Chief Minister Shan Vijayalal de Silva has condemned the Tiger terrorist attack on those who participated at the Prophet Muhamed's birthday commemoration held at Akuressa on Tuesday.

"The Tiger terrorists have again displayed their brutality. They are no respectors of other religions or communities.

It is the responsibility of all southerners to act with restrain at this moment.

As Chief Minister as well as Local Government Minister, I am saddened to learn the deaths of several heads of local bodies in the South," the message said.

"While wishing the speedy recovery of the injured, I appeal to the country to rally round the Government in supporting its anti-terrorist drive," he said.


Plantation roads developed

Youth Empowerment and Socio Economic Development Minister Arumugan Thondaman has allocated Rs. 7 million to construct estate roads.

The inauguration ceremony of the road construction was held at Maskeliya plantation sector recently.

Funds were allocated to concrete the road to Brown Low division of Brown Low estate at Rs. 2.8 million and Rs. 2.5 million was spent for the Adams Peak Division of Moeeka Estate, and Rs. 1.7 million was allocated for the Bloomfield division at Kovil road.


AGM

The Annual General Meeting of the Dehiwala Housewives' Association will be held at the S.de.S. Jayasinghe Memorial Hall, Dehiwala today (12) at 1.00 p.m. under patronage of its President Lohini Ramanayake.


Special clinic

A special clinic for Glaucoma will be held today from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the National Eye Hospital, Colombo for free of charge. The organisers expect to screen around 1000 needy persons over the age of 60 during the clinic.


Free kidney screening clinic

The Western Infirmary Hospital in Borella will conduct a free kidney disease Screening Clinic to mark the 4th World Kidney Day which falls today. This program is arranged by Professor Rezvi Sheriff, Consultant Nephrologist at the Western Infirmary Hospital who is also the incumbent President of the Sri Lanka Medical Association.

This program will be held at the Western Infirmary Hospital, 218 Cotta Road, Borella from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.


Badur Mowlood

The recital of Badur Mowlood will be conducted by Al Haj Moulavi M.T. Hillurudeen (Falahi) and Al Haj Moulavi A.B.M. Mubarak (Falahi) from today after Magrib prayers and will continue until Isha prayers at the Nawala Jummah Mosque.


Prayers, religious lectures

The program will commence on Sunday, March 15. Rathibathul Jalaliya will be recited by Moulavi A.B.M. Mubarak (Falahi).

It will start after Magrib prayers and it will continue till Isha prayers.

A religious lecture will also be conducted by Moulavi Al Haj M.T. Hilurhdeen (Falahi) after Isha prayers.


Bharatha Ridee Gee

Bharatha Ridee Gee which is broadcast every Saturday on Isura FM 93.6 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. looks back at the Golden day's of Indian Cinema.

The best of Hindi cinema will be featured in this one hour program produced and compered by film producer Aruna Paththinige.


AGM

The 12th Annual General Meeting of the Mahinda Club (an old-boys organisation of Mahinda College, Galle) will be held at 9.30 a.m. on Sunday, March at the OPA Auditorium, Stanley Wijesundara Mawatha, Colombo 07.


Seminar

The Japanese Graduates Alumni Association, in association with the Embassy of Japan will hold a Seminar on Kabuki and Noh Drama on March 15 from 8.00 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the NYSC Auditorium, Maharagama.

Act of LTTE barbarism - NFF

The National Freedom Front strongly condemns the murderous attack by the LTTE terrorists causing the death of 15 and injuring about 46 last Tuesday at Akuressa. The attack symbolises their savagery committed on a day of religious significance to the Muslim world.

Similar attacks were carried out earlier against Buddhists, Hindus and Muslims as well.

The LTTE afflicted with dwindling cadres will resort to any act of savagery for the sake of its survival.

"We believe the Sri Lankan society is not safe until the elimination of the Tiger terrorists."
