LTTE brutality proved to world - Religious Affairs Minister

Religious Affairs Minister Pandu Bandaranayake has vehemently condemned Tuesday's LTTE suicide attack on the Prophet Mohamed's birthday celebrations held at the Godapitiya Mosque and said it clearly proved the brutality of the LTTE to the whole world.

The Minister in a communique issued yesterday said Tuesday's celebrations was a national event organised by his Ministry devoid any religious or communal bias. The brutal attack on a religious ceremony of this nature should gain the attention of the entire world community.

He wished to reiterate that the humanitarian operations carried out in the North to liberate innocent civilians can never be halted or reversed by such cowardly attacks.

Bandaranayake who expressed his condolences to the families of those killed in the attack including the Chairman of the Devinuwara Pradesheeya Sabha, Vice Chairman of Kamburupitiya and Akuressa Pradesheeya Sabhas, other local councillors wished speedy recovery to Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mahinda Wijesekera, residents in the areas and all others injured in the attack.

He also thanked all public spirited officials and people who came forward to rush the injured to hospitals and assist the people stranded suffering from deep shock at the scene of the blast.
