Healthcare and Nutrition Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva met members
of the Indian medical team last morning before their departure for
Pulmoddai.
The Indian medical team will be setting up an emergency medical unit
and hospital to cater to the medical requirements of the IDPs being
evacuated from Northern Sri Lanka.
The Minister thanking the Indian Government for its assistance, said
it symbolised the close friendship between India and Sri Lanka. Indian
High Commissioner Alok Prasad also handed over to the Minister the
consignment of medicine gifted by the Indian Government to Sri Lanka.
The medicine are valued at approximately Rs. 70 million. The High
Commissioner underlined the Indian Government's commitment to continue
to assist Sri Lanka in meeting urgent medical needs of IDPs.
