ITB will help promote Lanka as a major tourist destination

The International Tourism Exchange (ITB), considered the largest global event for the Travel Industry will help promote Sri Lanka as one of the major tourist destinations said Managing Director, Sri Lanka Tourism Dileep Mudadeniya.

He said the unique feature this time is that more media campaigns have been organized throughout Germany to promote Sri Lankan tourism during the event. Sri Lanka Tourism has also appointed a new German Pubic Relations (PR) company, Newsplus to promote Sri Lankan tourism aggressively in target markets.

This event also helps to promote domestic; inter regional and International travel throughout the world. It is held annually in Berlin, the capital of Germany.

In keeping with tradition, Sri Lanka Tourism stakeholders are planning to participate in this event with another strong delegation with 40 companies, he said.

Mudadeniya said the local trade expected to visit ITB includes hoteliers, Travel agents and others in tourism related services. Despite the security concerns in the North and the East of the country, the tourist areas are safe for tourists and the positive approach of the travel trade is obvious by the continued participation at crucial professional events such as this.

There have been various exciting new ventures, attractions and opening of exclusive resorts in Sri Lanka’s tourism scene in recent years.

Therefore, Sri Lanka tourism and all partners are intent on coming back on account of the varied attractions and Sri Lankan hospitality.

The total area covered by the Sri Lankan pavilion is 268 sq metres.

This year the Sri Lanka stall is more open and inviting to the visitor with an open concept enabling visitors to make more intense contacts with Sri Lankan trade representatives as well as some varied attractions of the island nation.

In addition to the separate booths arranged for exhibitors in a more relaxed atmosphere, there is also a specially demarcated area for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
