UN: Activities for Women’s Day

United Nations, Mar 5 (Prensa Latina) United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon will inaugurate a series of activities in the UN for the celebration of the World Women’s Day, when the campaign will be impelled to brake violence against women in the world.

Ban will pronounce a speech before 1,000 participants in the sessions of the Commission on Women’s Statute, among them some 50 ministers.

According to the announced schedule, there will be the Gambian Vice-President and State Secretary for Women Affairs, Aja Isatou Njie Saidy, and Maria del Roc¡o Garcia, president of the National Institute of Women from Mexico.

Among the debates it is highlighted a panel about violence against women and girls in the context of the armed conflicts, with the participation of UN special representative Radhika Coomaraswamy.

Also, the presentation of a new data center about violence against women by General sub-secretary Asha Rose Migiro and a conference of the General Secretary’s special press adviser’s press for the topic, Rachel Mayanja, are announced.

Meantime, theatrical presentations of the group Tiyatroglobal, inspired by the call of Ban to put an end to the violence against women, will take place The UN General said the link between both activities is clear because “we stop habitual violence which spoils human lives, destroys health, it perpetuates the poverty and prevents to achieve the equality and the women’s progress.” The General Secretary said that the bond among both activities is clear because or we should stop the habitual violence, it destroys the health, it perpetuates the poverty and prevents to achieve the women’s equality and progress.”
