SLVF condemns attack on Lankan cricketers
Bernard PERERA
In a statement issued by the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation states
it is shocked to hear the cruel attack on the Lankan cricketers. This
recent attack reminds us of the previous history of the 1972 Munich and
the Atlanta attacks that brought black marks on the sports arena.
The worst incident in Sri Lankan sports scene was the killing of
Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle at a sporting event. A miracle saved our
cricketers from this brutal attack much to the relief of sports lovers
of this country.
It further states problems have to be sorted out through discussion
and not by the bullet. While wishing the cricketers speedy recovery it
also sends its sympathies to the police officers who lost their lives in
saving the Lankans.
The statement goes on to pay a tribute to coach driver Mehar Mohamed
Kalil for his bravery in taking the Lankan cricketers to safety. If not
for this brave act, none of the cricketers would have returned home.
We as a federation thank him for his act.
The Federation while wishing speedy recovery hopes the cricketers
will give of their best to bring cricket back to its top level soon.
The statement was issued under the signature of its President, Dilan
Perera, Minister for Ports Development. |
