Tigers shoot at civilians:

Three dead, two injured

Three civilians were shot dead and two others injured when the LTTE opened fire at a group of civilians fleeing the ‘Safe Zone’ on six boats in Chalai yesterday.

Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said the LTTE opened fire indiscriminately at the civilians who were seeking protection with the Security Forces.

He said three boats landed at Kevil in the Chundikulam area with 78 displaced civilians including wounded civilians. Meanwhile, Naval troops who spotted the other three boats with the bodies of three civilians towed the boats to Munai in Jaffna.

The three civilians had been shot on their chests and heads.
