Opposition Leader wants details of US$ 1.9 billion loan

Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday requested the Government to submit details to parliament regarding its move to obtain a US$ 1.9 billion loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

"The Prime Minister or the Finance Minister should inform the House the interest rates and related conditions of this loan," he said. Wickremesinghe said according to the information, this is going to be the biggest ever loan to be obtained from the IMF.

The Opposition Leader raising a point of order said except for media reports that the Government is going to obtain a loan of US$ 1.9 billion from the IMF, no any official statement has been made so far.
