Wilson Gunaratne’s “Charitha Hathak” Political satire would go on
boards at the Elphenstone Theatre on March 07, 2009 at 7.07 p.m.
The cast include Wilson Gunaratne, Ramani Fonseka, Gamini
Hettiarachchi, Premaratne Thennakoon, Suresh Wettasinghe, Kaveeshwara
Viduranga, Wickramasinghe Kavisekara, Wijeratne Naullage and Malinda
Withanage.
Critics are of the opinion that the play is the true political
scenario of “The Dreamland”. The audience would be in fits laughter from
the beginning to the end.
One has to see it to believe it.......
Meter readers’ relent
Shirley WIJESINGHE
The work-to- rule campaign by meter readers of the Water Supply and
Drainage Board was called off following a discussion with Water Supply
Minister Mahinda Amaraweera.
The work-to-rule campaign was launched by meter readers mainly
against cutting down incentive allowances and the move to increase the
present monthly meter reading of 1400.
Workshop for World’s Children Book Day
Colombo Public Library and IBBY has organized a workshop on ‘Creative
literary works’ to develop the ability and skills of youngsters.
The workshop will be held from 8.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. on 2nd April
2009. The applications and their creative works (about one page) will be
accepted from the interested persons between the age group 15-35.

Abhidamma classes
Classes on Abhidamma studies conducted free by H.W. Nandasena will
commence on March 12 at the Y.M.B.A. Hall, Dharmarama Road, Wellawatte.
The classes for the middle level will be held from 5.00 p.m. to 6.00
p.m. and for the beginners from 6.00 p.m. to 7.00 p.m. every Thursday.
40th Anniversary
The 40th anniversary of the Nawala- Koswatte SANASA Cooperative
Society will be held on Sunday (March 8, 2008) at 9am at the society
auditorium, Koswatte Junction, Nawala.
Cooperatives and Consumer Affairs Minister Bandula Gunawardena will
be the chief guest.
Certificate awarding ceremony
The certificate awarding ceremony of the Pakistan Computer Centre,
Thalgaspitiya, Aranayake will be held on March 7 at 9.00 a.m. at the
Thalgaspitiya Muslim Maha Vidyalaya auditorium.
Sixty five junior students and 24 youth who successfully completed
the Diploma in Computer course at this centre, established with Pakistan
Government aid will be awarded certificates.

Gifts for needy children
The distribution of school bags, exercise books and stationery for
needy children organized by the Sri Lanka Islamic Society to mark Meelad

Krishnamurti talk
A recorded public talk on ‘Are desire and time responsible for fear?’
delivered by the late Indian sage J. Krishnamurti will be replayed at

visited Puttalam on a fact-finding mission regarding the
needs of the schools in the Puttalam area. All schools were
invited to the Puttalam Town Hall and afforded an
