Infrastructure tops FDIs
The largest amount of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) received by Sri
Lanka last year amounting to US$ 661 million was for infrastructure
development.
The principal segment of the economy, the manufacturing agriculture
and infrastructure facilities absorbed a total US$ 889 million, with the
larger component of US$ 553 million being allocated for the telephone
and telecommunication network.
According to BOI records, the manufacturing field receiving a direct
foreign investment of US$ 189 million of which 72 million dollars were
for textiles, garments and leather products.
The agriculture sector enjoyed a direct foreign investment of US$ 39
million.The total direct investment of US$ 889 million in 2008 registers
an overall increase of 21% over the US$ 734 million received in 2007. |
