Lanka celebrates International Women's Day tomorrow

Sri Lanka and the world celebrates the International Women's Day tomorrow. This year's theme is 'United to end gender based violence'. The national ceremony will be held at 10.00 am at the Navarangahala, Royal College, Colombo 7.

First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa, Child Development and Women's Empowerment Minister Sumedha G. Jayasena and several other guests will take part in the national ceremony.

An awards presentation for some outstanding women from different fields is one of the highlights of this year's celebration.

Women from all over the country including the North will take part in this celebration. The ceremony consists of several lectures and cultural items.

Under the Mahinda Chinthana the Ministry has taken action to ensure the safety and well-being of Sri Lankan women. Different projects and programs have been introduced to increase women's participation in decision-making.
