Moratu Vidyalaya eleven outright wins

Moratu Vidyalaya needs just one more victory to equal the record of Ananda College for the most number of outright victories during a cricket season.

Over the years since 1934 the game of cricket went from strength to strength and today the College fields a side, second to none under the captaincy of the talented cricketer Lasitha Mendis.

Upto this year Moratu Vidyalaya held the record of the most number of victories until Ananda lowered that record last week. The Moratuwa boys battle back to equal that record this week with four matches on the cards and they are fancied to go one better.

The present captain Lasitha Mendis is in the Sri Lanka schools cricket pool for the forthcoming Bangladesh tour in April.

During the season he had scored well over five hundred runs and claimed fifty wickets to become one of the upcoming all-rounders of school cricket.

If nurtured well he is certain to be a versatile cricketer who could bring glory to Sri Lankan Cricket like his school mate Ajantha Mendis.

His all-round skills have already enable him to earn a regular place to play for the Old Moratu Vidyalians sports club in the under 23 and Division two Cricket Tournaments organized by Sri Lanka Cricket.

Speaking to the Daily News Sports Lasitha Mendis told that his ambition is not to go for the records but to play the game in its true spirit.

Every one expects for them to win the Big Match and the limited overs match against Sri Sumangala, Panadura and further added Sri Lanka test cricketer Ajantha Mendis is giving a tremendous boost to their cricket team and they are determined to do better in the future and he requests the past cricketers to rally round the school.
