Pensioners want Rs. 50 back

The "Nawalapitiya Pensioners' Association" and members of the Govt. Servants' Pensioners' Association in Pasbage Korale Divisional Secretariat area have protested against the deduction of a sum of Rs. 50 from their February pension.

A large number of individual pensioners too have sent letters and telegrams to the Pasbage Korale Divisional Secretariat expressing their displeasure about this deduction. It is said that a sum of Rs. 50 has been deducted from February Pension as a contribution towards the construction of a Holiday Rest for Pensioners closer to Ramboda Falls in the Nuwara Eliya district.

Pensioners state that they were not made aware of this fact and the deduction has been done without their consent. On the other hand they are not going to take rest in such holiday rests at their old age.

They state that these things are done not for the welfare of the public but for personal benefit.
