In a bid to give professional training and ensure a bright future for
the younger generation within the Kurunegala Pradeshiya Sabha division
who fail to enter the university would be trained in professional skills
on the initiative of the Vocational Training Minister Piyasena Gamage.
The Chairman, Kurunegala Pradeshiya Sabha has taken immediate steps
to launch a vocational and professional training scheme for those youth
at the Kurunegala and Matale Vocational training centres.
Addressing the media Patrick Karunasinghe, the Chairman Kurunegala PS
said that it is the responsibility to give professional training to the
youth who fail to enter university as the youth would benefit by the
scheme and be profitable citizens who would help the development of the
country.
The Chairman also said that only 3 per cent of the student population
enter the university for higher studies and as a result there were not
much opportunities in the past for the younger generation who fail to
proceed to university education or to obtain at least GCE O/L or A/L
qualifications end as unskilled labourers, in such event.
He said in order to put an end to this situation the Government has
now planned to provide vocational training even for those who fail to
proceed for higher education.
The Chairman said that Technical Colleges and Vocational training
centres have introduced a series of courses aimed at youth who possess
varied skills and they can follow a course of their choice and
specialize in their chosen fields. |
