Keells Super, joined hands with Dialog Telekom and NDB Bank to come on board the eZ Pay network, South Asia’s first mobile commerce platform. Shoppers at Keells Super now have the convenience of paying from their mobiles, and need not worry about carrying cash or card.

eZ Pay is an mCommerce application that allows users to perform a variety of financial transactions via their mobile phone. Launched in 2007 by Dialog Telekom and NDB Bank, eZ Pay affords consumers the facility to purchase goods, pay utility bills, transfer money and perform a number of banking transactions.

Head of Business Systems, Consumer Foods and Retail Groups of John Keells Holdings PLC, Nalaka Umagiliya said: “Innovation is a key facet of the Keells Super chain, and we lay claim to a number of industry firsts in the country.

We are continually seeking ways and means to add value to our customer experience through service and technology. Thus, this partnership with Dialog and NDB Bank comes as a likely extension that compliments our theme - ‘welcome to life’.”

eZ Pay would initially be available at the Keells Super outlets in the Western Province, and plans are already afoot to extend the service to the entire chain. With this new service, shoppers at Keells could use their eZ Pay-enabled Dialog mobiles to pay for goods at outlets that display the ‘eZ Pay’ sign.

“With Keells Super joining the eZ Pay platform, it complements our customers by extending the reach of the eZ Pay network by demonstrating the value significance of mobile commerce going forward,” said Group Chief Commercial Officer of Dialog Telekom PLC, Thivanka Rangala. eZ Pay can be used by anyone anywhere, and with the added advantage of facilitating online payments it is indeed convenience at your fingertips, he added.

Also commenting on the partnership, Vice President Consumer Banking and Marketing of NDB Bank PLC, Indrajith Wickramasinghe said: “We are pleased to welcome Keells Super aboard what is no doubt an inventive platform. The advent of Keells to the eZ Pay network is a win-win scenario for all concerned, as it would benefit the extensive customer base of all three companies island wide.”

Allianz names riskiest film

At the movie event of the year, the 81st Annual Oscar Awards held recently, Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company, a member of the Allianz Group, the entertainment world’s leader in insuring films of Hollywood production companies, named Oscar nominee “The Wrestler,” the Riskiest Film of this year’s crop of Oscar-nominated films.

“The Wrestler” is an emotional drama about Randy “The Ram” Robinson, a once popular pro wrestling star, now aging and down on his luck, who battles both personal and health issues. As an insurance risk, the film wins “most risky production” primarily because lead actor Mickey Rourke did much of his own stunt work in the film.

Rourke executes extremely physical wrestling scenes-even deliberately cutting himself to draw blood during a fight. In one scene, Rourke has an especially brutal match accompanied by glass shards, staples and barbed wire.

“We considered it a major risk because of the factors related to the stunt work: the physicality and quantity of the stunts. Even young actors have difficulty with physically challenging stunts,” said Joseph Finnegan, vice president of Fireman’s Fund Entertainment division.

“As the lead actor in this film, if Rourke had a serious injury it could have resulted in a delay or even halted production” said Finnegan.
