Rajakaruna passes away

Death occurred in Kandy of former St. Sylvester's College and Dimbula
sportsman Hiran Rajakaruna.
Rajakaruna played cricket for St. Sylvester's College and Central
Province schools as a deadly fast bowler.
He captured over 50 wickets in four seasons of school cricket for his
alma mater. In his final year in 1967 he took over 70 wickets and has
the record of having performed the hat-trick in the big match against
Vidyartha College when he took 4 wickets in 4 balls in an over and
almost brought an unexpected victory for his school when Vidyartha were
chasing a small target for victory which they achieved. He also
represent the school at athletics.
On leaving school he was employed with the Sri Lanka State
Plantations Corporation in upcountry. He played Sara Trophy cricket and
rugby for Dimbula Athletic and Cricket Club.
His funeral took place at the family burial grounds at Pilimatalawa. |
