WHO and South Asian health delegation meet President
Top level delegations from the WHO and 11 South Asian countries who
participated at the inaugural session of the convention on Social
Determinants on the Health of the South East Asian Region, jointly
organized by the WHO and Health Ministry, called on President Mahinda
Rajapaksa at the Temple Trees recently.
Representatives expressed their views that the field studies on
health have confirmed that Sri Lanka has achieved considerable progress
in such areas as education, drinkable water, housing, women’s and
children’s health promotion programs which have enabled Sri Lanka to
maintain high health standards and indicated their satisfaction over the
high quality progress in the domain of health.
It was revealed that the commission on the prevention of world health
chaired by Prof. Michel Marmot expects to study Sri Lanka’s free health
and education systems and explore whether it could be applied to develop
the entire gamut of world health and education.
Bangladesh Health Minister Dr. A.F.M. Ruhal Haque, Bhutanese Health
Minister Lyo Zangley Dipka, Maldives Health Minister Dr. Amirath Jammeel
and Prof. Michel Marmot of the WHO and S.E. Asia representative Dr.
Poonum Singh participated. |
