First Vocational Technical Training University opens soon

The first ever Vocational Technical Training University in Sri Lanka
will be opened in Ratmalana next month by the Ministry of Vocational and
Training, a Ministry official told the Daily News yesterday.
Accordingly, Prof. Kapila Gunasekera has been appointed the first
Vice- Chancellor of the University by President Mahinda Rajapaksa as per
the provisions provided by Act No. 31 of 2008 Vocational Technical
Training Universities.
The President has also appointed D.P.Wijesinghe and K.A.H.
Kalugampitiya as inter-committee members of the Vocational Technical
Training University.
Level 07 of the National Vocational Qualificat -ion(NVQ) introduced
to the vocational training field by the Ministry of Vocational and
Technical Training will be considered as the degree level of the course.
Sources also added that level 1,2,3,4, of the NVQ are conducted by
Technical Colleges and other Vocational Training centres of the country.
Level 5 and 6 will be respectively equavalant to the Diploma and
Higher Diploma levels which are conducted by the Higher Technical
Colleges established at provincial level.
The student who passed their G.C.E. Advanced Levels but failed to
gain university admission could enter this university to follow the
degree level with qualifying level 5 and 6 of the NVQ without following
the traditional university admission procedure. |
