Poland’s 2000 Olympic women’ss hammer throw champion Kamila
Skolimowska died aged 26 suddenly in Faro, Portugal, on Wednesday a
colleague of her’s Szymon Ziolkowski. “Kamila arrived in a wightlifting
room and was taken ill and lost consciousness,” he told Polish press
agency PAP.
“We managed to revive her and call an ambulance.
“The ambulance was taking her to a medical centre. However, en route
to the centre she had another attack.
And despite the best efforts of the medical team they were unable to
revive her and she died,” added Ziolkowski, who was there to attend a
training camp with Skolimowska.
Skolimowska was the youngest Olympic champion in 2000 and also
garnered two minor medals at European Championships level and appeared
in the 2008 Olympic final, though, she failed to register a valid throw.
