Geographical indication protection for "Ceylon Tea" & other tea
growing regions
The Cabinet has approved a memorandum submitted by the Plantation
Industries Minister D.M. Jayaratne is sought for Sri Lanka Tea Board to
register the "Ceylon Tea" and other seven tea growing area named under
geographical indication certification mark in Sri Lanka and other
foreign countries on behalf of the Government.
Registration of ozone friendly tea logo by Sri Lanka Tea Board
The Cabinet has approved a memorandum submitted by Plantation
Industries Minister D.M. Jayaratne to register the "Ozone Friendly Pure
Ceylon Tea" Logo in Sri Lanka and other relevant tea importing countries
on behalf of Government of Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka Tea Board to
franchise and monitor the use of "Ozone Friendly Pure Ceylon Tea" Logo
by the local tea trade members.
Issuing uniforms to officers in class I of the Office Employees
Service
The Cabinet has approved a memorandum submitted by Public
Administration and Home Affairs Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama to issue 2
shirts and 2 pairs of trousers per annum also to the officers in Class I
of the Office Employees Service as in case of Class II officers of the
Office Employees Service who are being issued with uniforms at present
in the Government sector.
National Organic Control Authority (NOCA) establishment
The Cabinet has approved a memorandum submitted by Export Development
and International Trade Minister G.L. Peiris to register and recognise
inspection and certification bodies and to establish required committees
as necessary to ensure conformity to SLSI/international requirements, to
maintain a register of operators subjected to the inspection system, to
establish and amend as necessary guidelines, rules and standards to
maintain quality of organic produce in Sri Lanka to meet the
requirements of importing countries and to develop and promote organic
produce for the export and domestic market, and to facilitate training
in the organic sector.
Purchase of paddy by the Paddy Marketing Board (PMB) during "maha"
season 2008/09
The Cabinet has approved a memorandum submitted by Agriculture
Development and Agrarian Services Minister Maithripala Sirisena to
purchase 140,000 Metric Tones of Paddy by the Paddy Marketing Board at
Rs.30/- per kilo of Samba and at Rs.28/- per kilo of Nadu and to obtain
a sum of Rs. 4,060 Million from the General Treasury for purchase a
quantity of 140,000 Metric Tones of paddy.
Committee of experts for reviewing the duties of the Examinations
Department of Sri Lanka and to make recommendations for improvement of
its quality to a high level of standards
The Cabinet has approved a memorandum submitted by Education Minister
Susil Premjayantha to appoint the Committee to make its recommendations
for qualitative improvement and incorporating modern technologies in to
the National testing process of the role of the Department of
Examinations of Sri Lanka using the expertise knowledge and the
experience in nationally and internationally. |
