Contest for EPZ women employees
The Labour Department's Women's and Children's Affairs Unit has
organised a competition titled Kalapayen Obbata - Daskam Pelahera among
women employees in the Export Processing Zones to test their talents in
the artistic fields.
The first round of the contest will be held at processing zones in
Avissawella, Biyagama, Katunayake and Koggala under the patronage of
Minister Athauda Seneviratne. The finals will be held on March 8 in
Colombo.
Opening of Yaser Arafath mosque
The Yaser Arafath Mosque built with assistance from the people of
Palestine at Wathhimirajapura, Maradana, Beruwala will be opened by
Religious and Cultural Affairs Minister of Palestine Jamal Bawatna today
at 10.30 a.m.
Former Minister and President of the Sri Lanka-Palestine Friendship
Association Imthiaz Bakeer Markar will also participate.
The road leading to this new mosque renovated under the Maganaguma
programme has also been named Yaser Arafath Road.
Royal 'Saga' at BMICH
Royal College, Colombo will present its annual musical extravaganza
'Saga' at the BMICH today at 6.30 pm.
Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga will be the guest of
honour. Ministers Dinesh Gunawardena, Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, Naveen
Dissanayaka and Mahindananda Aluthgamage will also be present.
At least 450 students of Royal College will sing in all three
languages at the show and present dancing and other cultural items.
Students from Visakha Vidyalaya, Musaeus College, Devi Balika Vidyalaya,
Sirimavo Bandaranaike Balika Vidyalaya and Ratnapura Sumana Balika
Vidyalaya will also present cultural items.
Singers Dayaratna and Amara Ranatunga will sing as guest singers.
Krishnamurti talk
A recorded public talk delivered by J. Krishnamurti on 'Can goodness,
love, truth be born of discipline?' will be replayed at Anula Nursery
School, 310, High Level Road, Colombo 6 at 9.45 a.m. on February 22.
The event is organised by the Krishnamurti Centre, Sri Lanka Inc.
Loyola College 60th anniversary
Loyola march of Loyola College, Negombo to mark its 60th anniversary
will be held on Sunday while an exhibition will be held for five days
from May 27.
An inter-school western and eastern band competition and school choir
competition will also be held to mark the occasion.
DS College Commerce Day
A Commerce Day organised by D. S. Senanayake College, Colombo will be
held today from 9 a.m. to noon at the BMICH. Education Minister Susil
Premajayantha will be the chief guest.
Students and teachers of the Commerce Society of 40 schools will
participate. It will be held under the patronage of Principal Dr. Asoka
Senani Hewage.
Salaries pending

It is reported that employees of the Tissamaharama Multi-Purpose
Co-Operative Society have not been paid their monthly salaries for three
months inclusive of this month (February).
The lack of sufficient funds in this Co-Operative has been the main
reason for this and the employees are faced with number of difficulties
due to this setback.
Students drown
Shirley WIJESINGHE
Two schoolchildren who went for a bath in the Victoria reservoir in
Theldeniya drowned yesterday, Police sources reported.
Both victims are 16 years old and their bodies had not been
recovered.
