Engineering Degree at Open University
The Faculty of Engineering Technology of the Open University of Sri
Lanka (OUSL) offers open distance leasing (002) courses in Engineering.
The faculty offers two main degree programs. One is the Technology
(Engineering) program leading to the award of a degree in engineering
technology in specializations of civil, electrical, computer, electronic
and communication, mechanical, mechatronics and textile engineering.
The other is the Industrial Studies program leading to the award of
degree in industrial studies in the specialisations of agriculture,
apparel production and management, textile manufacture, and industrial
management.
Any student who has passed the GCE (A/L) examination in the
mathematics stream can enrol for the engineering degree program
directly. These students can complete the program in a minimum duration
of five years. Students have the liberty to take less number of courses
per year and complete the degree in a longer time period.
Students who have no G.C.E. (A/L) qualification can also enter the
engineering degree program through a one year foundation studies. The
students could obtain Diploma in Technology after collecting a certain
number of course credits and continue to study towards the degree.
The faculty charges a very reasonable subsidised (about one third of
the actual cost) course fee, as the Government bears two third of the
actual expenditure for each student. This is very much below the course
fees charged by any other institution for similar courses.
Application forms will be available from January 28 to February 28
from 9.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. at the Public Information Office, Nawala,
Nugegoda, (except public holidays) and at the other Regional (Colombo,
Kandy, Jaffna, Matara, Anuradapura, Batticaloa) and Study Centres (Ambalangoda,
Ampara, Badulla, Bandarawela, Buttala, Galle, Hambantota Hatton,
Kalutara, Kegalle, Kuliyapitiya, Kurunegala, Polonnaruwa, Ratnapura
Trincomalee, Vavuniya) of the Open University (except Mondays, Tuesdays,
and Public holidays) on cash payment. |
