Lanka maintains position on British Special Envoy

Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama apprised the Cabinet of Ministers yesterday on the discussions with his British counterpart, David Milliband regarding the United Kingdom's appointment of a Special Envoy to Sri Lanka, says a press release issued yesterday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Foreign Minister has explained to the Cabinet that it was not possible for a re-consideration of the matter in the light of the deficiencies associated with the said appointment.

Accordingly, the Cabinet reaffirmed the decision taken by it on February 12 to reject the appointment of a Special Envoy to Sri Lanka.

"Minister Bogollagama further informed the Cabinet that he is maintaining a close engagement with the British Foreign Secretary in the overall context of existing the warm and cordial relations between Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom," the release added.
