Barely 48 hours after the Government transported 46 MT of food and
medicine to uncleared areas of Mullaitivu using sea routes on Tuesday,
another vessel carrying a fresh stock of essential food items and
medicine to the same area, was scheduled to leave Trincomalee yesterday
evening.
Commissioner General of Essential Services S.B Divaratne said that
the fresh stock would be unloaded at Puttumattalan and would be handed
over to the Additional Government Agent, to be distributed through the
cooperative outlets. This will be the second stock to reach the
Mullaitivu district within two days by sea routes, following the
shipment on Tuesday, which according to Divarathne has already being
distributed among IDP’s.
The food shipments, would continue until a land based route is
established Divaratne said, adding that another one was scheduled to
follow this one on Saturday.
After unloading, these Vessels would also be used to transport
patients from Mullaitivu to Trincomalee, with the assistance of the ICRC
Divarathne added.
