HNB felicitates sports stars

Hatton National Bank clinched many championships and emerged runner up in several Mercantile League Tournaments, Super Leagues, Mercantile Knock-out Tournaments, Open Club Tournaments and Western Province Tournaments in the year 2008.


The Hatton National Bank annual Awards Ceremony for the stuff who excelled in sports in which they emerged champions organised by the HNB Sports Club was held at the HNB Towers on Wednesday. Champions and runner up teams received their awards and trophies in the Annual Awards presentation ceremony at the HNB Towers on Wednesday.

Former Sri Lanka cricketer Kumar Dharmasena who served the company loyally for 19 years and also HNB Sports Club and became the youngest international cricket umpire in Sri Lanka. Dhammika Menike (800 m), Jayamini Ileyperuma (400 m) who represented Sri Lanka in athletics and won the gold Medals in South Asian Games and many international Athletic events, Waruna Waragoda (cricket) and many others were felicitated.

Rajendra Theagarajah, Managing Director and CEO of Hatton National Bank was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

Athletics: Hatton National Bank emerged Women's overall champions in the Mercantile Athletic Championship and Amateur and Veteran Champions WP and won 16 Gold Medals, 10 Silver Medals and nine Bronze Medals, Veteran 800 m runner Dhammika Menike led the team.

Badminton: Hatton National Bank emerged Men's Doubles and Mixed Doubles Championships in the Mercantile individual open championship and also emerged overall champions. Overall Runner up, Men's 'A' Division, Women's 'A' Division in the Mercantile inter-firm Team Championship and won the Men's Doubles and Women's Doubles in the National Open Badminton Tournament.

Basketball (Men): Runner up int he Mercantile semi-League Tournament and Mercantile Knockout Tournament ('B' Division).

Basketball (women): Champions in the Mercantile League Tournament and Runner up in the Mercantile Knock-out Tournament.

Hockey: Champions in the Mercantile Hockey League and Mercantile Knockout Tournaments and Runner up in the Mercantile Annual Seven 'A' side Tournament.

Football: Hatton National Bank emerged Mercantile League champions.

Netball: Runners up in the Western Province Netball Tournament, Open Club Tournament, Super League Tournament and sportsline.Com Challenge Trophy Tournament.
