A person who had climbed an electric post to tap electricity was
electrocuted. The victim is a father of two in Rattota.
Inquirer into Sudden Deaths Upali Navaratne recorded the death was
due to electrocution.
Fund raising show for Api Wenuwen Api
LiFe, a music band has organised an entertainment night under the
theme ‘Major Flavaz’ to raise funds for the Api Wenuwen Api Fund. The
show will take place on February14 at the Ananda College Kularathna
Auditorium.
Bathiya, Santhush, Centigradz, Doctor, Intenze and Kido will perform.
Family Mass
The St. Joseph’s College OBU Family Mass for February will be held on
February 15 at the College Chapel at 8:30 am. All are invited to
participate and join in the traditional breakfast and fellowship soon
after the Mass. This Mass will be sponsored by the Joes Class of 2001.
Public lecture
Former Secretary to the Trade, Marketing Development, Co-operatives
and Consumer Services Ministry Dr. R.M.K. Ratnayake will deliver a
public lecture on “Global Food Crisis and its implications on Sri Lanka”
at 5 p.m. on Thursday at the Auditorium of SLAAS, 120/10, Vidya Mawatha,
(Off Wijerama Mawatha), Colombo 7.
Cultural show
The Indian Cultural Centre will be presenting the annual cultural
show by its students. Nav Pratibha 2009 at 6.30 p.m. tomorrow at the
Kularathne hall, Ananda College, Colombo 10. Indian High Commissioner
Shri Alok Prasad will preside. Western Province Governor S. Alavi
Moulana will be the Chief Guest.
New station, substations
Chaminda Perera
A ceremony to transform the Megammana and Pahalathalawinna railway
halts into substations will be held today in Pahalathalawinna in the
Matale district with Railways General Manager Lalithasiri Gunaruwan in
attendance.
The passengers have requested the department to upgrade these halts
into substations for several years.
The Geli Oya substation in the Kandy district will also be upgraded
into a station today, according to Railways Department sources. A loop
line facilitating the bypass of two trains will also be inaugurated
today.
Annual Sil campaign held

The annual mass sil campaign, meditation programme, Dhamma desana and
Dhamma discussions organised by the Jana Pubudu Sadachara Padanama,
Akuressa will be held at Akuressa Dasa Maha Bodhi Senasuna on February
14.
5,000 Buddhists including schoolchildren and youth will observe
ata-sil on the day.
Anusasana and lectures will also be delivered on Buddhist activities
and essential values.
Krishnamurti talk
A recorded public talk delivered by J. Krishnamurti on ‘Why does man
live in conflict?’ will be replayed at the Public Library auditorium,
Colombo 7 at 10.30 a.m. on Sunday, February 15.
The event is organised by the Krishnamurti Centre, Sri Lanka Inc.
Public rally in Pannala
A public rally in support of United People’s Freedom Alliance
candidates contesting North Western Provincial Council election will be
held at Pannala Thalammehera junction today at 6.30 p.m.
Mass Media and Information Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa will
preside over the meeting and Ministers Nimal Siripala de Silva,
Hemakumara Nanayakkara and Mervin Silva will address the rally.
At Ibbagamuwa
A public rally in support of United People Freedom Alliance
candidates contesting the North Western Provincial Council election will
be held at Ibbagamuwa town on February 11 at 4.30 p.m.
Ministers Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, Nimal Siripala de Silva, Mervin
Silva and Parliamentarian Piyasiri Wijayanayake, R. D. Wimaladasa and
Senaratne de Silva are scheduled to participate at the rally. |
