UPFA predicts clean sweep
The United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA)
yesterday claimed that they would make a clean sweep at Saturday’s
Provincial Council election for Central and Northwestern, winning
all 40 polling divisions in the five districts with an overwhelming
majority.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa in a special message
to the first meeting of SAARC Ministers of Parliamentary Affairs
said yesterday that the Local Government election will be held at
the earliest opportunity to elect representatives to local bodies,

Majority could decide minority nominee -SC
The Supreme Court indicated to the Speaker that
the nominee of the minority parties in Parliament for the
Constitutional Council (CC) could be chosen on the basis of the
majority decision if there was no consensus, when the rights
