Demo urges Canada to take meaningful action against LTTE

The Jathika Hela Urumaya yesterday staged an anti-LTTE demonstration in front of the Canadian High Commission in Colombo urging the Canadian Government to take meaningful and effective action against the activities of the LTTE in Canada , with a request to arrest those pro- LTTE groups which have reportedly harassed Sri Lankan Consul General in Toronto after forcibly entering his office.

The protesters complained that LTTE supporters in Canada are conducting fund raising events and protest campaigns against the Sri Lankan Government in spite of the fact that the LTTE is a banned terrorist organisation by the Canadian Government.

They also criticised the Liberal Party of Canada for taking the side of the proscribed terrorist group by bringing in a resolution in the Canadian Parliament.

The Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) Propaganda Secretary Nishantha Warnasinghe said, the Canadian Opposition Liberal Party had said on 59 occasions that the Government of Sri Lanaka is carrying out "Genocide " against the Tamils in the Mullaitivu.

"We condemn this statement as a vicious, malicious untruth. It is also a part of ruthless terrorist propaganda to mislead the world ," he added.

They also called for the support of the Canadian Government to end terrorism in Sri Lanka. The JHU handed over a letter to the Canadian High Commissioner Angela Bogdan following their demonstration.

The letter explained the real situation in Sri Lanka in regard to Tamil civilians who have been held captive by the LTTE in non-liberated Vanni areas, to the Canadian High Commissioner Angela Bogdam. The letter requested the Canada Government to educate Canada and its people about the true situation in Sri Lanka, JHU sources said.
