SLPA and Casual Line win Deyata Kirula VB titles

The volleyball championship conducted to coincide with the Deyata Kirula Exhibition concluded on Sunday at the BMICH courts with Sri Lanka Ports Authority and Casual Line SC winning the Under-23 Men’s and Women’s titles.

In this category SLPA defeated Siyambalapitiya Friendship Foundation in straight sets to take the Deyata Kirula Trophy and the cash award of Rs. 50,000. Meanwhile, in the women’s segment it was Casual Line SC which beat National Youth Services Council also with the same margin 3-0 to carry away the main awards.

In the schools section for boys and girls it was Senanayake MV from Madampe who took major honours winning three titles (Under-15, 17 Girls and Under-17 Boys). They also managed to secure three third places in this category.

Girls from Maliyadeva Model School overcame St. Bernadette’s College, Polgahawela to win the Under-15 title. Dammissara MV from Nattandiya Under-15 Girls and Under-17 Boys teams were the runners to Senanayake MV in this age group. SA Janitha Sarath of Sri Lanka Ports Authority and P.P. Leena Sandamalee Somaratne won two special awards each for their brilliant performances for men and women respectively at this championship.

Results: Under 15 - Girls: Maliyadeva Model School beat St. Bernadette’s College 3-0. Boys: Senanayake MV, Madampe beat Dammissara MMV, Nattandiya 3-0.

Under 17 - Girls: Senanayake MV, Madampe beat Anamaduwa MMV 3-0. Boys: Senanayake MV, Madampe beat Dammissara MMV, Nattandiya 3-0.

Under 23 - Girls: Casual Line SC beat National Youth Services Council 3-0. Boys: Sri Lanka Ports Authority beat Siyambalapitiya Friendship Foundation 3-0.

Special awards:

Under 15 - Girls:

Best Setter - L. R. Dilki Shanika Herath (Ibbagamuwa Model School).

Best Spiker - Rasangika Maduwanthi Jayasinghe (St. Bernadette’s College).

Best Player - R. A. Chaya Sanjeevani Jayaratne (Ibbagamuwa Model School).

Boys: Best Setter - Dileepa Chamika (Senanayake MV, Madampe).

Best Spiker - Anupa Lakmal (Senanayake MV, Madampe).

Best Player - Thisara Lakshan (Senanayake MV, Madampe).

Under 17 girls:

Best Setter - Udeshika Damayanthi (Senanayake MV, Madampe).

Best Spiker - Samitha Herath (Senanayake MV, Madampe).

Best Player - Yasodha Harshani (Senanayake MV, Madampe).

Boys: Best Setter - Sameera Madusanka (Senanayake MV, Madampe).

Best Spiker - Manjula Nalin (Dhammissa MMV, Nattandiya).

Best Player - Shammi Amal (Senanayake MV, Madampe).

Under 23 - Girls:

Best Setter - S. M. A. Nisaka Sandamalee (Casual Line SC).

Best Spiker - P. P. Leena Sandamalee Somaratne (Casual Line SC).

Best Player - P. P. Leena Sandamalee Somaratne (Casual Line SC).

Boys: Best Setter - S. A. Nilanga Sanjaya (SLPA).

Best Spiker - Gayan Madusanka (Siyambalapitiya Friendship Foundation).
