‘UPFA win will help President’

People should strengthen the hands of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, by ensuring a UPFA victory at the forthcoming Provincial Council Elections said National Freedom Front Leader Wimal Weerawansa at an election meeting held at Katupotha.

The meeting was held in support of NFF candidates contesting the Wayamba Provincial Council elections on the UPFA ticket. He said at a time, our war heroes are forging a victory against terrorism, the NFF is duty bound to back the Government with the intention of a united Sri Lanka where Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims and others live in unison protecting their ethnic identity.

Weerawansa said thousands of UNP and JVP supporters joined the Government under the leadership of President Mahinda Rajapaksa. He said Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe was unable to issue even a media statement, with regard to the Mullativu and Kilinochchi victory. Some parties were trying to undermine and divert attention from the military victories, with various sabotage attempts in the South.

Weerawansa said, all the prominent UNP members of Wayamba joined the UPFA and another set of 30 UNPers will join the UPFA within two or three weeks. Central and North Western Provincial Councils are regions where diverse ethnic and religious groups live, the victory will mean that all communities support the Government without any race, caste, religious and ethnic differences.

He said, the Government is carrying out a humanitarian operation in the North to liberate the innocent civilians, and it has a responsibility of developing the region to uplift the living standards of the masses.

Provincial Council candidates Mahinda Bakmewewa, Senaratne Erugalbandara and Ven. Dutuwewe Lankananda Thera also spoke.
