Blast victims to receive compensation

The Government through the Resettlement and Disaster Relief Services
Ministry will grant compensation to families of civilians injured and
killed in yesterday’s suicide bomb blast in Sugandirapuram, north of
Visuamadu.
On President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s directive, the Ministry decided to
grant compensation up to a maximum of Rs. 100,000 in the case of a
married person and a maximum of Rs. 50,000 in the case of an unmarried
person who died in the blast, Resettlement and Disaster Relief Services
Minister Rishad Bathiudeen told the Daily News.
The Minister said that the District Secretary in Vavuniya has been
instructed to arrange compensation payments for the victims while
necessary money allocations have already been sent to the District
Secretariat.
The Ministry has also decided to grant a maximum of Rs. 50,000 to a
person injured in the blast based on medical reports.
Meanwhile, it has been decided to pay Rs.50,000 to parents of
children who died in the blast. Under the first phase of compensation
payments Rs.15,000 will be given for funeral arrangements. |
