Over 15,000 civilians cross over to Vavuniya

Over 15,000 civilians have crossed over to the cleared areas to come to Vavuniya by yesterday.

Arrangements have been made to provide shelter in refugee camps in schools and auditoriums, sources said.

The Army is providing food, clothing, sanitary and other facilities on the Vavuniya Government Agent's direction. The refugees who turn up at the Omanthai security checkpoint are registered and sent to repatriation camps.

The refugees say that they have undergone untold hardships under the LTTE and are thankful to the Government for availing such an opportunity.
