Over 7,000 Kurunegala UNPers join Government

Over 7,000 hardcore UNPers from the Kurunegala District yesterday met President Mahinda Rajapaksa at President's House in Kandy and pledged their support to him to defeat terrorism and unify the country.

These supporters who worked tirelessly for the UNP in past elections, said working against the Government at the present juncture would constitute a treacherous act.

A prominent member of the UNP's Sanga Sammelanaya Ven. Rambukewelle Sudhamma, former Deputy Transport Minister H.P. Abeyratne and former Irrigation Minister D.M. Bandaranayake were among the gathering. Those who met the President also included several UNP supporters from the Tamil and Muslim communities.
