The Indian cricket team met President Mahinda Rajapaksa on the occasion of the 61st Sri Lanka Independence Day reception at Temple Trees on February 4. The President posed for a group photograph with the Indian cricket team. Sports Minister Gamini Lokuge is also in the picture.

Olympic medallist Susanthika Jayasinghe formally announced her retirement from athletics after a special meeting with President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees yesterday. Minister of Sports and Public Recreation Gamini Lokuge was also present.

Muralitharan breaks world one-day bowling record

India four in four with a 67- run win against Lanka:

Muttiah Muralitharan who broke Wasim Akram’s one day international world bowling record having Gautam Gambhir as his 503rd victim was the only redeeming feature in another disgraceful effort by the Sri Lankans who conceded defeat to the Indians by 67 runs in the 48th over in the fourth one-day international in a day/night encounter at the R. Premadasa Stadium, yesterday.

Easy victory for Bloomfield

A fine knock of 74 from Chamara Silva and a five wicket haul by right arm fast bowler Chinthaka Jayasinghe helped Bloomfield to record a comfortable 136 run win over Sri Lanka Army Sports Club in their Premier Tier ‘A’ limited over encounter played at Reid Avenue yesterday.
