Surveyor General's funeral tomorrow
The funeral of Surveyor General B.J.P. Mendis will be held tomorrow
at 3.30 p.m. at the Holy Emmanual Church, Rawathawatta, Moratuwa. He was
59 years at the time of his death.
Mendis had his education at Prince of Wales College, Moratuwa and
entered the University of Peradeniya and passed the B.Sc Science degree
with first class honours winning the gold medal.
He did the MSc in Satellite Remote Sensing at the University of
London and was also a lecturer at the University of Peradeniya.
Mendis joined the Sri Lanka Survey Department on September 1975 as an
Assistant Superintendent of Surveys and he held the positions of Deputy
Surveyor General, Additional Surveyor General and was appointed as the
43rd Surveyor General on October 29, 2004.
He was also the Chairman of the Land Survey Council and Chairman of
the Advisory Board of the Institute of Surveying and Mapping, Diyatalawa.
He was a Member of the Director Board of the National Aquatic
Resources Research and Development Agency.
His remains are lying at his residence 44/13, Templers Road, Mount
Lavinia and will be brought to the Surveyor General's Office, Survey
Department, Narahenpita, Colombo 5 today and kept from 1.00 p.m. to 3.00
p.m.
He leaves his wife Dr. Srikanthi Mendis and two children. |
